WhatsApp Brings Audio and Video Calling to Web Browsers

WhatsApp owned by Meta, has introduced a new feature that lets users make and receive audio and video calls directly from a web browser. This means users no longer need to download the WhatsApp desktop app to make calls. The new feature works for both personal and group calls. Users can also share their screen, react during calls, and easily check their call history and favourite contacts through a new Calls tab. WhatsApp said this update is useful for people who use shared computers, work laptops where app downloads are restricted or anyone who simply prefers using a browser.

Another new feature is Call Transfer, which allows users to move an ongoing group call from one device to another such as from a phone to a computer without ending the call. The Whatsapp is adding a Waiting Room feature to make group calls more secure. If the host turns on the "Require Approval to Join" option, anyone joining through a call link will have to wait until the host approves their request.

WhatsApp has also improved call quality with two new features. One is QuickHD, it provides high quality video from the starting of the call while the other one is Noise Suppression, that reduces background noise making voices clearer even in busy or noisy places. Lastly, these new features are being rolled out gradually.
