UPI offline payment procedure: The internet has introduced the world to our fingertips. Thanks to smartphones and stable internet connections, banking, shopping, booking holiday, or doctor's appointment are easily accessible. When its about making payments, smartphones have made transactions very simple for users to make secure transactions.
Unified Payment Interface (UPI), created by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in 2016, has made it simple for millions to send and receive money to and from their bank accounts. Now, users can transfer money instantly from one bank account to another using their own UPI ID. But what if the internet is not available? Luckily, you will no longer be held back without the internet.
UPI also supports offline payments, making it convenient for users when stuck in low-connectivity areas.
To pay with your smartphone, simply follow these steps:
1. Call *99# through your registered mobile number. It is a USSD-based facility launched by NPCI. It provides key features like sending money, balance checking, and UPI management. It is particularly suitable for users in low-connectivity areas.
2. You will be prompted to select a language. This service offers 13 languages, including Hindi and English.
3. Subsequently, users will be prompted to enter their bank's IFSC code in the text box.
4. Keeping in mind that the individual is using a smartphone to make the transaction, they will be shown options for all accounts registered with the phone number. They can type option 1 or 2 to link the preferred bank account number and activate the process.
5. The users will be then asked to enter their debit card's last six digits and expiry date to finalize the verification process.
6. Lastly, the users will need to enter their UPI PIN in order to authenticate and complete the UPI offline transaction. It is also important to note that one can deactivate the offline UPI service again by calling the *99# from the registered phone number and following the prompts.
For the uninitiated, USSD is known as Unstructured Supplementary Service Data, which is a communication protocol used in GSM networks for sending and receiving text messages. It's utilized for simple mobile services like checking balance or initiating any mobile features.
