Google limits Meta’s use of its Gemini AI models

Posted by TechnoDG on 1 hour(s) ago .

Google has reportedly limited how much Meta can use its Gemini AI models because Meta asked for more computing power than Google could provide. Google is owned by Alphabet Inc and they informed Meta around March that it could not supply all the Gemini AI capacity Meta wanted. This caused delays in some of Meta's internal AI projects.

The report also said that a few other Google customers were affected but not as much as Meta. Since Meta uses a large amount of AI computing power, it was hit the hardest. Google and Meta also did not respond to requests for comment outside normal business hours. Because of these limits Meta has asked its employees to use AI tokens more carefully. AI tokens are the units used to measure how much AI is being used. Although tech companies are spending billions of dollars on AI chips and data centers many are still finding it difficult to get enough computing power to keep up with the growing demand for AI services. Lastly, revenue at Google Cloud grew to $20 billion in the first quarter but Sundar Pichai who is the CEO of google said that computing power constraints prevented even higher growth and contributed to the cloud unit's backlog nearly doubling quarter on quarter.
