Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 access plans change from July 20: Here’s what’s new

Anthropic has decided to change how people use its best AI model Claude Fable 5. For the last few months Claude users were able to use Fable 5 without paying extra but this free usage period has ended on July 20. From July 20, Claude Max and Team Premium users can still use Fable 5 but their usage limit will be cut by 50%. However, Pro and Team Standard users will no longer get access to Fable 5 through their subscriptions. If they want to keep using it they will have to pay separately based on how much they use it. Anthropic is giving Pro and Team Standard users a one time $100 credit but it may not last long for people who use the AI frequently. 

This change shows that Anthropic is moving away from the old idea of unlimited AI subscriptions and moving toward a pay for what you use system which could make things more expensive for heavy users. Anthropic has said that handling the huge demand for Fable 5 has been difficult. Many users faced problems because so many people wanted to use the model. The company has also been working to increase its computer power. Recently, reports said Anthropic and Meta were discussing a possible $10 billion deal where Anthropic could use Meta’s computing systems for up to two years.

The decision may also be linked to growing competition in the AI market. Companies like OpenAI have launched new models that they say can perform as well as Fable 5 but at a lower cost. Chinese AI companies, including Moonshot AI have also released cheaper open AI models, putting more pressure on companies to reduce prices. Overall, Anthropic is changing its pricing because running powerful AI models is expensive and demand from users is growing quickly.
