Meta launches Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp subscriptions

Earlier this year in 2026, Meta confirmed that it was developing a subscription plan and began testing it. The subscription is designed for users who want extra features and a more advanced experience on Meta's social apps. It will also help Meta earn money from sources other than advertising by offering paid services to its large global user base. Since these apps have already reached most potential users and have limited room for further growth.

The new Plus plans are designed differently for each app. Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus focus more on sharing and expressing yourself, while WhatsApp Plus is mainly about personalization and messaging features. Meta says these new plans are separate from Meta Verified which still offers account verification, protection from impersonation, and customer support. For now, Meta Verified will continue alongside the new Plus plans, although that could change in the future.

Instagram Plus comes with several extra features for subscribers. Users can see how many times their stories have been re-watched, create as many custom story audience lists as you want, and boost one story every week to help it get more views. It also lets you keep stories up for longer than 24 hours, view a Story without your name appearing in the viewer list, and search through your Story viewers more easily. Another feature allows you to post directly to your profile or highlights without the post showing up in your followers feeds.

The plans also include extra features such as animated Super Heart reactions for Stories, custom app icons, different fonts for profile bios, and more pins for your profile. These tools are mainly aimed at creators and people who want to grow their audience, but regular users may enjoy them too. Facebook Plus comes with many of the same features as Instagram Plus. WhatsApp Plus is different and focuses more on customization. It offers app themes, custom ringtones, extra pinned chats, personalized lists, premium stickers, and other messaging features.
