Meta, which is owned by Mark Zuckerberg, has released a new generative AI video editing functionality that allows users to edit videos "using a range of preset AI prompts." The features can be available in the Meta AI app, Meta.AI website and the Edits app.
Meta said that users can easily edit "short-form videos using a variety of preset AI prompts" in order to edit and change things such as their outfit, style, location and more. Available in the United States right now along with 12 additional countries globally, the new feature draws inspiration from Meta's Movie Gen models.
The company also stated that starting this year, you will be able to edit videos with Meta AI utilizing their "own text prompts to make your video edits exactly as you imagine them."
Meta AI's new video editing feature is convenient as users will not require any skill in editing their recorded videos. All you need to do is upload a video to the Meta AI app, Meta.AI website or the Edits app and choose from over 50 available editing prompts to turn 10 seconds of your clip into a different thing.
Once you have finished choosing from an existing prompt, Meta AI will edit your video automatically to match the one you selected. For example, users will be able to transform their videos into a graphic novel or reimagine themselves as a classic comic book illustration and convert it into a video game with things like battle clothing. Additionally, you can even modify the lighting of a video to "create a dreamy mood with shimmery sparkles, pearlescent blur and soft focus."
If you're using the Meta AI or Edits app to turn your video, it also has the option to quickly share the edited video directly to social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram. Also, users of the Meta AI app and Meta. AI web can opt to share these AI-edited videos straight to the discover feed.
Meta has been working on AI video creation for several years now. In 2022, the company launched its Make-A-Scene, which could generate images, audio, video and 3D animation. A year later, it launched Llama Image foundation models which could generate higher-quality images and videos. Lastly, in 2024, Meta merged all these technologies to create Movie Gen, a new AI model that is capable of producing custom videos and sounds and even edit recorded videos using text prompts.
