Telegram Back in India After Temporary Government Ban

Posted by TechnoDG on 6 hour(s) ago .

Telegram is once again available across India after the government's week-long ban ended on June 22. The messaging app is now working normally. The government had blocked Telegram before the NEET-UG re-examination. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the National Testing Agency (NTA) said that, the app was being used by some people to share fake NEET question papers and spread panic among students. Officials also said that when one channel was removed, new ones were quickly created, making it harder to stop such activities.

Telegram challenged the government's decision in the Delhi High Court. The company said the ban affected around 150 million users in India and was too harsh. However, the High Court refused to stop the ban. It said the temporary block was allowed under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act and was needed to stop the spread of leaked exam papers and protect the fairness of the exam. After the ban ended, Telegram services were restored across the country.
