I/O Edition: Google has announced everything at the Android show: Android 16.

Google organized this year’s I/O developer conference with its first- ever android show, giving us an early glimpse of Android 16 a week before the main keynote on May.

Material 3 Expressive takes the center stage, as the Google’s new design for Android and Wear OS, inflicting new dynamic colors, springy animations, and a smoother experience to your smartphone and watch.

Google also presented new features and setting, like smart notifications, enhanced privacy and security and more tailoring. And Gemini AI will be on more devices such as watches, cars, TVs, and even Samsung’s forthcoming XR headset.

Google Material3 Expressive design drives Android trademark customization at greater height. The theme this year appears to be “springy,” as in more fluid, as well as placing natural animations into every corner of your user interface.

The motion feels reactive and tactile: a notification message swiped away or the entire stack rippled with a spring-loaded motion, along with satisfying tactile feedback when you snap the notifications off. Even the everyday gestures, such as swiping down the shade, scrolling recent apps, and adjusting the volume slider, all now comes with the same playful bounce.

The dynamic color theming syncs the entire system with the palette of your watch face, making your interface feel cohesive rather than cobbled together. Tiles have been re-engineered to show more information like a one-tap shortcut to favorite contacts or workout. 

The company also says that with further optimization of performance and power; you can expect more battery life up to 10%.
Wear OS 6 will be released later this year.

Three privacy and security features coming to Android 16
The Android security playbook is receiving three solid upgrades meant to keep you one step ahead of scammers, thieves, and hackers.

First, the AI-powered Scam Detection feature, which blocks suspicious messages within Google Messages, is improving its detection of new text scams. On Android 16, Scam Detection is now catching and blocking these fraudulent ones: crypto "investment" scams and bogus toll-road fees from billions of shady messages every month.

Next, we have Find Hub, a new dashboard to keep track of your phone and luggage tag or to make sure your kid got home safely. This service is adding more third-party Bluetooth tags and, later this year, will use satellite connectivity (in areas where carriers support it) so you can continue sharing your location if cell service drops out. Google also joins up with airlines like British Airways and Singapore Airlines to allow tracking of your tag location by the airline for speedier luggage recovery.

As a finishing touch, Android?16 folds Google's most robust security settings into a simpler?to?toggle Advanced?Protection mode. Gemini is arriving on more of your devices
Google is planning to put Gemini on every screen you have, like your watch, dashboard, TV or the mixed-reality headset Samsung launches later this year.

In the vehicle, Gemini assist with voice duties from Google Assistant, so you can talk to navigate to an EV charging next to a park, summarize confusing group chats, or get caught up on the day’s news while you drive.

Gemini is arriving in your car
Google is bringing its Gemini AI assistant to your driver's seat, initially on the 250?million cars that currently use Android Auto (in the next few months), and subsequently on Google?built?in dashboards in car models such as the Lincoln?Nautilus, Renault?R5 and Honda?Passport (later this year).

With Gemini, you'll have a conversation with your car as if speaking with a passenger. You can command Gemini to "always text Joe in Spanish," spot taco joints along your path, or locate an address in a hidden Gmail thread, all without you having to memorize any complicated stuff or poke at your screen.

Google's auto innovations don't stop at AI. The company is also introducing new apps into its catalog, along with new categories such as games and videos, so that charging stop and school pickups are a bit more fun. It's also introducing digital car keys to additional brands like Audi, Volvo and Polestar.
